Aloha Theatre is looking to serve Big Island writers in 2023 by offering workshops aimed at helping you start or finish that script, be it your very first or your hundredth! Join us on December 28th at 6pm for an end of the year mixer - share your ideas with other local writers, let us know what you’re working on, and tell us how we can best help you achieve your writing goals next year. Meet our Instructor: “I think playwriting and screenwriting go hand and hand really - it’s beneficial to have both." Ann Hughes is a fantasy writer for the stage and film, with a particular interest in how stories can make us reevaluate and change cultural norms. She received a BA in Creative Writing from Emory University, and an MFA in Writing for the Performing Arts from The University of California, Riverside. Her one-act play, The Younger, about the fascinating life of Emperor Nero's mother, won the Aristine Mann award at Emory, and her short film script, We Are Not Rats, about the challenges women can face in STEM, won first place in the Write To Film competition at UCR. Ann loves nothing more than discussing new work and getting to the root of what every script needs to be the best that it can be.
