SPRING BREAK IS NEARLY HERE! That means it's Play Time!!
Kona Dance & Performing Arts and Aloha Performing Arts Company are teaming up AGAIN to bring some not-so-serious movement and musicality to students in south Kona. Our Musical Comedy Camp is for Youth ages 8-18, and will run from March 13 through 17.
Monday through Thursday Classes will be held at Kona Dance & Performing Arts studios:
Friday Classes will be held at the historic Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu
Our Spring Break Showcase is on March 17th at 2:30pm
All Students must wear close-toed shoes and dress in clothing comfortable for movement. Students should pack a lunch and a refillable water bottle. Snacks will be provided.
MEET THE INSTRUCTORS:
Improv & Tap Dance
Ali Drummond is a dedicated and passionate director, dance instructor, choreographer, and educator. She began her training at an early age through pre professional institutions such as the Children’s Ballet Theatre (later renamed to Capital Ballet Theatre), American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive Program, the Northeast Academy of Dance, and Happendance. Ali has performed biannually in full length classical ballets, such as The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Gaîté Parisienne, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, performing lead roles such as the Rat King and Cinderella’s Ugly Stepsister. After attending Eastern Michigan University’s Dance Program, where she participated in intensive training and performed at the American College Dance Association’s Annual Festival, she moved on to work professionally as a Company Member for Fungirl Dance Company & School. Simultaneously, Ali served as both Instructor and Director for the Center for Dance & Movement at The Community House, a nonprofit organization over 100 years old. Works of Ali’s choreography have been performed professionally at Collective Sweat Detroit’s annual Birthday Party the Ypsi Dance Swap, where she accepted a choreographer's award. Ali is passionate about creating a safe, upbeat, and body positive space for students to learn, explore, dance, and grow.
Laule’a Noche
Tap Dance
Laule'a Noche has danced for over 10 years and is a full time school student, part-time dance teacher, and professional dancer. She has been a dance captain, principal dancer in productions, and teacher assistant since the age of 12. She is proficient in multiple genres of dance like contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, ballet, and hip hop, and has studied under world renowned instructors. She teaches students ages 3-17 and is dedicated to helping students grow into the most authentic version of themselves.
Alexis Gaines
Musical Theatre and Broadway Jazz
Alexis Gaines has been dancing her whole life. She has extensive ballet, jazz and musical theater training with numerous well known teachers from around the world. She has a bachelor's degree and multiple subject teaching credential from Cal State San Bernardino and loves teaching and working with children.. Alexis danced professionally with the Palm Springs Ballet Company and the Company Too Dancers. She has taught for studios in California including Dance With Miss Lindsay and Dance Dimensions, as well as here on the Big Island at West Hawaii Dance Academy and most recently with Kona Dance and Performing Arts. She is so happy to be returning to KDPA!
Katy Raczkowski

Raised and trained in Montana, Katy Raczkowski began her professional career at the age of 15 with Salzburg Ballet Company as a core member. She later became a soloist for San Diego Ballet, Principal for Montana Ballet Company, and founder of Christian-based Kadosh Dance Company. Katy has 2 little boys and she currently lives on the Big Island where she teaches, choreographs, and performs for several studios/companies, including her digital dance company Why We Move Collaborative. With continual focus on trauma release, empowerment, and technical excellence, Katy seeks to offer her students the opportunity to be seen and heard at all ages and levels.
Justine Smith
Stand Up Comedy
Justine Smith is a comedian, writer, producer, promoter, and director living on the Big Island of Hawai’i. She started her comedy career in 2016, and began producing her own shows in 2017. She produces and performs in traditional stand up comedy shows as well as working as a traveling comic.
"Stand-up comedy is more than just telling jokes on stage. It harnesses the power of the psyche, builds solid communication skills, utilizes energic fields, and gets the brain to transmute the negative into a positive."

Alex Farnham is an actor, filmmaker, and YouTuber. He is most notable for making comedy sketches, parodies, music videos, and impersonating many famous people and characters, including Captain Jack Sparrow, Ace Ventura, and the Grinch. Roxanne Fox
Singing
Raised on the west side of Hawaii Island, Roxanne Fox is honored to be Aloha Theatre's newest Education Director. Roxanne participated in the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival in Waimea for several years before relocating to Wilmington, North Carolina. She performed with the Opera House Theatre Company, Level 5 City Stage, Cape Fear Shakespeare and got her first taste of film and television before moving to the Big Apple. Roxanne completed the 2-Year Musical Theatre Track at The Circle in the Square Theatre school, where she performed with the Alumni Ensemble. She has also performed at Oregon Contemporary Theatre, and The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts. Some of her favorite roles include Agnes in Agnes of God, Diana Morales in A Chorus Line, Ariel in The Tempest, Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde and Columbia in The Rocky Horror Show. Roxanne taught drama and performing arts classes with Hualalai Academy, Kuleana Education, and Innovations Public Charter School, and has served as the Aloha Teen Theatre advisor.
